It was simple, but -boy- was it perfect. A calm bride, surrounded by her mother, sister (maid of honor) and grandmother, Marissa dressed with peace and purpose in the bridal room at Chapel Dulcinea. The weather couldn’t have been more ideal. A rich, blue sky dotted with cottony clouds; the sun warming the Spring earth. It was brilliant. Sam, being a country boy, and Marissa, raised in the Southwest, chose a brown and coral color palette for their wedding, accented with ivories and neutral tones. The colors worked beautifully with the mission-style of Chapel Dulcinea, a free wedding venue just south of Austin, Texas.
The bolo tie that belonged to Sam’s grandfather made the perfect accent for his Texas-style country ensemble.
Sam waited at the open air chapel with his groomsmen. Giddy with anticipation, the smiles and laughter was contagious. Guests began to trail down the path to the chapel to take their seats, waiting for the bride to appear and this treasured time to begin.
The walk from the bridal room to the chapel affords a few minutes of peace as Marissa was accompanied by her fathers who held her train away from the dusty path.
A silk bouquet accented with lace doily roses created a piece of floral keepsake Marissa can display for years to come.
After the kiss and before the pronouncement, the couple rings the beautiful bell behind the altar.
The couple joined the family for a relaxed reception at a nearby restaurant then headed for a week of kayaking and adventure. What an amazing way to celebrate!
What Worked: Budget done beautifully.
They designed a super budget-friendly wedding by employing a free wedding venue, silk flowers, nixing the tuxedos, having a small wedding party, small guest list -but did not compromise on their photography. Your photos are your timeless mementos that truly document your day -all you’ll have to look back on each moment and relive it as if it was happening right this moment. Brides will tell you their day was a blur -they didn’t see the details, they forgot who was there, they remember bits and pieces, but having the moments captured from start to finish in creative photos allows you to relax and enjoy your day with the confidence that you’ll have a beautiful legacy of photographs to look back on.
What Would Work Even Better:
If I was to redo this wedding, I would opt for fresh flowers and have the guests go “unplugged,” meaning folks put away their electronic devices, cameras and video recorders and just enjoy the moment. When family and friends hover around the couple and bridal party, they compromise great photos by getting directly in the way. If you’ve hired a professional photographer and/or videographer, trust them to capture the wedding so you can enjoy the day. Live in the moment, trust us with the rest.
All in all, this was a great example of a couple working on a budget to truly celebrate their union in a beautiful way. It was a delight getting to be their photographer and I am so excited for the brilliant future of this beautiful couple! Congratulations, Marissa & Sam! May you always enjoy new adventures together and never cease to be head over heels for each other. The best part about love, it gets better with time.
